The governing body for basketball on Unguja and Pemba — clubs, schools, national teams, and the children who have not touched a ball yet.

The Zanzibar Basketball Federation organises, develops and protects basketball in Zanzibar. It registers clubs, runs the Zanzibar National Basketball League, educates coaches and referees, and selects representative teams for men, women, youth and 3×3.
The office sits at Amani Sports Complex in Stone Town, with a permanent Pemba desk so decisions are not made only on Unguja. District associations in all six regions deliver the game locally. The Federation sets the standard. The clubs and schools play it.
This page is a complete working draft. Confirm the founding year, the legal registration, and the relationship with the Zanzibar Sports Council, then replace these sentences in Elementor.
Zanzibar is not a separate FIBA member. The Federation’s international pathway is a partnership with the Tanzania Basketball Federation, so island players can be seen for national duty and Zanzibar select sides can enter invitational and pathway events.
Until that agreement is signed and published here, no page on this website should claim a FIBA ranking, a World Cup qualifier, or an Olympic berth. Hosting an annual East Africa Island Invitational in Stone Town is the Federation’s own event, and it does not need anyone’s permission.
It does not pick a club’s starting five, take a club’s gate money, or sell a place in a national team. Clubs keep their identity, colours and community. The Federation keeps the calendar honest and the pathway open.
