A child who is afraid does not have a basketball programme. This is the minimum code. Your lawyer and your safeguarding lead should replace it with the adopted policy.

The minimum code

  • Two adults present whenever children are training. One of them is not a family member of a player in that group.
  • No private messages from a coach to a child. Club communication goes to the parent or through the club account.
  • Changing rooms are supervised from the door, not from inside, and girls have a separate space even if it is a screened area.
  • Selection, playing time and academy places are never exchanged for money, gifts or favours.
  • Injury, bullying and concern reports go to the safeguarding lead, not only to the head coach.
  • A child can leave a session. Nobody is locked into a camp because a ferry was already paid.
  • Photos of children are used only with a parent’s written yes. No photo of a child in a changing area, ever.

How to report

Write or call the safeguarding lead. In this draft that person is Dr. Nadia Rashid, reached through the Federation desk, not through a team WhatsApp group. Replace with the real name, the real number, and a second channel that does not depend on one person being awake.

The Federation acknowledges a report within 48 hours, names who is handling it, and does not ask the child to confront the adult they reported.

Anti-doping, betting, and match honesty

Education first. Players and coaches in ZNBL Division 1 attend one session a season on banned substances, supplements sold in markets, and why a ‘vitamin’ from a stranger is a risk.

Players, coaches and referees do not bet on Zanzibar basketball. A result is official when the commissioner signs it, not when a group chat decides. The shot clock, the foul count and the table are part of honesty — see the league page for the equipment rule.
